How much does Etsy take from a typical t-shirt sale?
Take a $24.99 tee with $4.99 shipping — a $29.98 order. The transaction fee is $1.95, payment processing is $1.15, and the listing renewal is $0.20: $3.30, or about 11% of the order, before your product cost. If that same order came through an Offsite Ad at 15%, add $4.50 — Etsy's cut jumps to $7.80, about 26%. That swing is why sellers who rely on Offsite Ads price differently than sellers who don't, and why it's worth running both scenarios in the calculator above.
Etsy fee questions, answered
How much does Etsy take per sale?
For a US seller, Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% + $0.25. On a typical sale that's about 10–11% of the order total. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add another 12–15%, taking the total to roughly a quarter of the order.
How much does it cost to sell on Etsy?
There's no monthly fee for a standard shop. You pay $0.20 per listing (renewing every four months or on each sale), the per-sale fees above, and optionally an Etsy Ads budget you control. Etsy Plus is an optional $10/month.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Both the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee apply to the item price plus what you charge for shipping, so raising your shipping price doesn't dodge fees.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
When a sale is attributed to an ad Etsy ran off-platform, you pay an extra fee on that order: 15% if your shop made under $10,000 in the trailing 365 days (you can opt out), or 12% — mandatory — if it made more. The fee is capped at $100 per order.
Are Etsy fees cheaper than Shopify?
Per order, no — Etsy's percentage fees are higher than Shopify's payment processing. But Shopify has a monthly subscription and brings you no traffic, while Etsy's fees buy access to its buyers. Below roughly 15–20 orders a month, Etsy usually costs less in total; above that, an own store gets cheaper per sale.
Fees are only half the math.
