BSR Sales Estimator
Turn an Amazon Best Sellers Rank into a rough monthly-sales ballpark — a quick gut-check on how much a listing (or niche) is really moving.
Find a product’s rank under Product information → Best Sellers Rank on its Amazon listing. Use the main category rank.

Rough ballpark for the Clothing category only. Real BSR-to-sales varies hugely by category, season, and rank volatility — treat this as a directional read, not a guarantee.
What is BSR?
BSR — Best Sellers Rank — is the number Amazon assigns every product within its category to show how it's selling relative to everything else in that category. It updates roughly hourly and leans heavily on the most recent day or two of sales, so it's a read on current velocity, not lifetime popularity. A falling BSR number means sales are picking up; a climbing one means they're cooling off.
How BSR converts to estimated sales
Sales aren't spread evenly across ranks — they fall off a cliff. The top few thousand ranks in a big category absorb most of the purchases, then the curve flattens into a very long tail. This estimator fits a log curve to the US Clothing category and shows a range rather than a single number, because the real relationship shifts with season, category, and rank volatility.
What's a good BSR for a t-shirt?
| BSR (Clothing) | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Under 10,000 | Strong seller — double-digit sales per day |
| 10,000 – 100,000 | Steady seller — roughly 3–12 sales a day |
| 100,000 – 500,000 | Ticking over — about 1–3 sales a day |
| 500,000 – 1,000,000 | A sale a day, or every other day |
| Over 1,000,000 | Occasional sales — a few per week at best |
Bands follow this estimator's Clothing-category model — treat them as directional, and always compare ranks within the same main category.
BSR questions, answered
What is BSR?
BSR (Best Sellers Rank) is the sales rank Amazon assigns every product within its category, recalculated roughly every hour. #1 is the category's current best seller. It measures recent sales velocity relative to other products — weighted toward the last day or two — not a lifetime sales count.
What is a good BSR for a t-shirt?
In the US Clothing category, a BSR under 10,000 usually means double-digit daily sales. 10,000–100,000 is a steady seller moving a few units a day, 100,000–500,000 sells roughly one to three a day, and past 1,000,000 sales are occasional. Lower is always better.
How do I find a product's BSR?
Open the product's Amazon listing and scroll to the Product information section — Best Sellers Rank is listed there. Use the main category rank (for shirts, Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry), not the subcategory rank, which is much easier to score well on.
How accurate are BSR sales estimates?
Directional, not exact. The BSR-to-sales curve shifts by category, season, and how volatile a rank is, which is why this estimator shows a range instead of a single number. Use it to compare products and niches against each other, not to forecast revenue.
BSR tells you a niche is selling. It can't tell you if your design will.
Breaking in depends on saturation, novelty, and how close your design lands to what's already winning. Tee Verdict scores exactly that against live market data — see how the sellability score works or browse the niches selling best right now.
